I mean I actually really liked a couple of Sam Smith singles and a couple of Beck singles released over the last year and played them often. But considering the number of albums that were released this year that critics and bloggers refered to as being feminist statements, it’s remarkable how much that winner’s circle was made up of white men.

I’m confused and not exactly sure what you’re upset about with Sam Smith. But I do think writing the songs about a straight guy doesn’t negate the feelings he experienced or pain he endured, and that’s what makes good music imo.

gingahhh:

im not denying the fact that he’s a talented musician. however, the content of his songs and his speech at the grammys has largely influenced the public’s perception of him as someone who was treated unfairly by an ex lover when in reality he was lusting after someone who simply wasn’t attracted to men. its just silly, especially after he made those comments saying grindr is destroying romance. what kind of romance sam smith? the kind between you and a straight man? i mean imagine if adele’s album 21 had been about a gay man who didn’t love her back because he was gay
