This is the single most important thing I’ve ever babbled about on the internet.

My incredible partner Tanner is opening a book store here in Chicago. This is their dream, and what we’ve dedicated the last 7 months of our lives to work towards. He quit his job, he sold the proverbial farm, and we are ready to open Uncharted Books very soon—

but not without help from our friends and our communities.

Tanner has launched a Kickstarter and we are looking for people to invest to help turn the perfect location in the heart of Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood from

into a haven for writers, readers, and nerds without refuge.

I know times are tough, I am acutely and personally aware of this fact, so please know that your investment means the world to me and to Tanner and to our future.  Your investment, also, is just that: an investment.  It comes with a reward.  Things like lifetime discounts, free books, swag, and invitations to our investor-only preview party.

Please check out our kickstarter page at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1945935286/uncharted-books to see all of the cool rewards and read more about the store Tanner is trying to build.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this and please, please, reblog.

Oh, this is exciting!

Signal boost because I know so many of you LOVE books (as do I) and also supporting independent businesses.

Backed, because bookstores are fucking awesome.

I’m feeling all of the feelings, folks.

Pretty incredibly, in less than 24 hours, we’ve raised 27% of our fundraising goal.  It’s a testament to our incredible friends, the communities that have embraced us, the generosity of total strangers, and Superchunk retweeting our Kickstarter link (!!).  My heart is spilling with gratitude, I’m completely humbled and in awe of the amazing people that demonstrated their faith in local business.

But, even still, neither of us were able to sleep last night…

$2,704 feels really good right now, that is not something to undermine in anyway.  However, the reality is that if we don’t hit $10k before 11:03am on November 18th, Uncharted gets nothing

No money.

Zero.

Zilch.

Kickstarter only charges backers after a fundraising goal is reached.  Without continued support, Tanner will be right on top of the slated opening date without means to immediately fund the community based projects at the heart of the store and, potentially, not enough money to fully compensate the local contractors, artists, and wood workers involved in the project.

Please help us build on yesterday’s momentum, and build on today’s momentum tomorrow.  Help Tanner’s dream come to fruition.  Help what will, you know, some day be my family.  Help what has come to be, and will forever be, my family.

More importantly: Support local business.  Support local business that supports local craftsmen and its community.  Help this space become something other than a 3 1/2 years vacant eye sore in the heart of our neighborhood— let it become a place for people to share their stories.

Because I’m a book nerd and this sounds awesome.

Do it for book’s sake!
