now, see this is where (for me) both Vaughn and Whedon dropped the ball. There was so much that could be mined from the idea of gener neutrality, and how it played with identity. i.e. is Karolina’s lesbianism an attraction to the parts a woman has, which Xavin could make all day, every day. Or is it a more complicated affectational and emotional connection to the way a person presents themselvse. Is gender just the parts you have or is it something much more intrinsic? Instead, we mostly got pop culure references and seriously delayed issues about going back in time to the industrial revolution.
