She was very hesitant to diagnose me with an autism spectrum disorder. Instead, she believes I have severe social anxiety and, of course, there’s a pill for that. So we’ll try this out and hope things finally get better. I’m so tired of misinterpreting what everyone says to me, thinking everyone is mad at me and blundering through scores of miscommunications and faux pas every day.
Amazing how much quicker docs come to a diagnosis when they know there’s a pill for it. How much sway do you think pharmaceutical companies have in affecting the way doctors understand, diagnose and treat diseases?
I have social anxiety – may I ask what she wants to put you on?
Pharmaceutical companies have a huge impact in what doctors prescribe. I hate seeing all the little trinkets that the reps give the doctors so that they’ll push their pills. Most docs I’ve dealt with are all to happy to use me as a guinea pig for meds.
I’ll be taking Celexa (citalopram) daily and xanax (alprazolam) when I feel panic attacks coming on.
